It’s Week 3 of the college football season, and we might have just seen one of the best plays we’ll see all year. The Michigan Wolverines are out in front of the Bowling Green Falcons. The No. 2 Wolverines went up big in the second half and appeared in complete command. So much so that they decided to dial up a trick play against the Falcons. The play not only worked out but produced an absolutely spectacular result.
Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy called the play and Wolverines running back Blake Corum got it and sent it back. With time, McCarthy launched the ball down the field in his receiver’s direction. Johnson attempted to bring it in but couldn’t initially corral it. It was hit, bobbled, and then pulled in by Johnson, who maneuvered into the endzone!
The circus catch drew significant attention online, and for good reason. It’s one of the best plays of the early 2023 season, and to top that, somebody’s going to have to do something insane. This was a flat-out great play by both McCarthy and Johnson.
Michigan eventually defeated Bowling Green and will now turn their attention to Big Ten Conference play. The back-to-back Big Ten Champions open with Rutgers next week.
The CFB world had plenty to say after the dazzling play.
TOUCHDOWN: There's a "wow" play for the Wolverines. Michigan converts a 50-yard flea-flicker on a pass that was tipped, bobbled and caught by Cornelius Johnson. Great throw, and impressive ball skills for Johnson to come away with the pass.
