Washington Huskies star quarterback Michael Penix Jr. established himself as the Heisman Trophy favorite this weekend with a dominant game against the Oregon Ducks which included a go-ahead touchdown drive in the final two minutes in which Penix needed just two plays to put his team back on top. And it sounds like he’s ready for those moments.
During a press conference this week, Michael Penix Jr. was asked about his ability to perform in such a high-pressure situation, and he made it clear that he thrives in those environments – though he admits that he’d prefer his team to just blow out opponents instead.
“I’d say I’m cool, calm, and collected. I’m a guy that I don’t really get too high or too low in any pressure moments. I love it. I love being in those sit…” Penix said before stopping himself, according to On3. “I’m not going to say I love being in those situations, if I couldn’t, if I didn’t have to and we was just blowing teams out all the time that would be great as well.”
Penix and the Huskies are certainly used to those blowout wins as they beat each of their first four opponents by four scores or more. But when clutch situations arise, Penix and his team are ready.
“But when those situations do come I understand that I’m mentally prepared and always ready for those moments,” Penix said. “And my team as well.”
