Ahead of Saturday’s SEC Championship Game, LSU head coach Brian Kelly provided a major update on one of their stars.
Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels played sensationally this season. But Daniels went down in last Saturday’s debilitating loss to rival Texas A&M. He injured his ankle and his status for the SEC Championship against Georgia was unknown.
A huge reprieve could be heard from the LSU faithful on Thursday afternoon. Kelly offered a huge update on the status of Daniels. Area reporter Scott Rabalais of The Advocate tweeted, “Brian Kelly said Jayden Daniels will play Saturday. Had good week of practice.”
This is a big win for LSU as they head to Atlanta. Daniels helped lead the team to its best season since they won the College Football Playoff Championship in 2019. The Arizona State transfer threw 15 touchdowns with just two interceptions. He also ran for 11 more touchdowns, a career-high. He accounted for 3,390 yards between passing and rushing.
The Tigers will need everything they can get out of Daniels against No. 1 Georgia. The Dawgs’ defense might not be as fierce as it was last year but it does not lack playmakers. Jalen Carter and freshman defensive back Malaki Starks, to name a few.
