The Michigan Wolverines football program is currently in the midst of an NCAA investigation into allegations of an illegal sign-stealing scheme, and legendary former Notre Dame Fighting Irish head coach Lou Holtz had some strong words about the allegations.
During a recent appearance Hot Mic with Jonathan Hutton and Chad Withrow on the OutKick Network, Lou Holtz gave some pretty candid thoughts on the allegations against Michigan, making it clear that he thinks the allegations are “deplorable.”
“I find [the allegations] deplorable,” Holtz said. “I think it’s bad and I think they should definitely get to the bottom of it before they decide who will play for the National Championship.”
Holtz thinks that the Wolverines should be removed from College Football Playoff contention if the allegations can be proven, claiming that their actions are “unfair” to the other teams involved.
“I don’t think you could do it on allegations, but if you have definitive proof then I definitely think that something should be done,” he said. “It’s unfair to the other teams that are operating by the rules.”
The College Football Playoff committee has made it clear that it does not intend to consider the allegations when determining the playoff field.
