It looks as if Liberty head football coach Hugh Freeze won’t be going anywhere for the foreseeable future. Freeze has agreed to a new contract through 2030 that will pay him $5 million a year over the next eight years.
Since becoming the coach of the Flames, Freeze has a 75-44 overall record.
Freeze, as some may recall, was the head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels from 20212-2016 but NCAA troubles, which included phone calls he made to an escort service, forced him to leave his position.
“We are grateful for Coach Freeze’s outstanding leadership of Liberty Football and the positive influence he has on our student-athletes,” said athletic director Ian McCaw in the school’s release “Liberty Football is realizing the vision that was cast for it decades ago and we are excited that Coach Freeze will lead the program into the future.”
Freeze’s name has come up a lot over the years for different head coaching positions such as at Auburn. It was rumored that before the Tigers hired Bryan Harsin, the administration was taking a hard look at Freeze. However, his past troubles may have prevented him from getting the job. Freeze was said to also be in the running at one point for the offensive coordinator position at Alabama too a few years ago.
Despite the fact that he has signed a new contract, one has to think that Freeze will find another head coaching gig at another Power 5 school soon.
Naturally, the college football world had a few things to say about Freeze’s new contract.
As you can see, lots of interesting takes on Freeze’s new contract and the potential of his leaving in the future.
