For decades, college football has set itself apart from the NFL with its tradition, passion, pageantry, and pride. But with the addition of the transfer portal and NIL, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin sees that changing.
During a recent appearance on Marty & McGee, Lane Kiffin explained that he sees college football becoming much more like the NFL. And he isn’t necessarily a fan of that.
“And when they used to ask me, ‘Okay, coaching in the NFL, coaching in college, what do you like?’ And I was like, ‘I really like the college because it’s like the players care so much about where they’re at in college,’” Kiffin said according to On3. “Lot in that locker room, like that’s where they wanted to play for when they grew up, and the passionate fanbase and everything, and in the NFL it’s business. So, it just makes for a very different dynamic and we’re now moved toward that to where it is really business and I would say the joy is not the same.”
It’s a reality that Kiffin has had to come to terms with and adjust, but that doesn’t mean he’s necessarily happy about the changes that have been happening to the sport in recent years.
