Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M have a lot of work to do. The Aggies didn’t meet sky-high expectations in 2022. As a result, the standard in College Station cratered this offseason. Of course, it didn’t help matters that Fisher hired disgraced former coach Bobby Petrino to head the Ags’ offense this season. Many wondered what that meant for the team’s play-calling duties.
If you ask Fisher, he’s not willing to budge right now. He delivered an answer that didn’t enhance things and, with only weeks to go, is absurd.
“Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher wouldn’t answer if OC Bobby Petrino will call plays,” Brett McMurphy tweeted.
Jimbo then said, “I’m not going to get into that. Bobby was hired for a reason. Tremendous guy. Tremendous football mind. Hopefully, he’ll call the game & have suggestions.”
Hiring Bobby Petrino, of all people, and then choosing not to be transparent about why he was there is undoubtedly a choice. Petrino has disgraced himself in more than one way over the years. If he was hired to call plays, well, then just say that.
Fisher was consistent in not answering questions about Petrino’s role with the team on Monday. While that happened, the CFB world was consistent in reacting to the situation. Not many of the reactions were kind to Jimbo Fisher or A&M.
