The 2024 NFL Draft class is particularly strong at the quarterback position with players like Caleb Williams, Michael Penix Jr. and Drake Maye leading the way. But it sounds like Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh thinks JJ McCarthy should be in that conversation.
Following Michigan’s 52-10 win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Saturday afternoon, Jim Harbaugh made it clear that he thinks JJ McCarthy is the best overall quarterback in the country.
“There’s a lot of great quarterbacks around the country and everyone’s talking about how maybe this is one of the best quarterback drafts ever,” Harbaugh said. “Sometimes they say that in September, early October, but I know there are a lot of really good ones. But nobody we’d rather have than JJ McCarthy. Haven’t watched all the guys, you know, kind of started to watch some of the others but you know play for play, JJ McCarthy …
“Maybe I’m a little biased, but I don’t think so. I’m trying not to be, but I think he’s the best one. I really do. No one we’d rather have Just so proud of him.”
McCarthy has performed well for the Wolverines so far this season, leading them to a perfect 6-0 record. We’ll have to see if he can separate himself from the group of elite quarterbacks and compete for postseason awards like the Heisman Trophy.
