Earlier this week, news broke that the Michigan Wolverines were facing an NCAA investigation for allegations related to sign stealing. The news immediately led some fans and media members to recall a curious interview that Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano gave at halftime during the team’s game against Michigan earlier this season.
“Well, there’s some stuff going on out there,” Schiano said on the broadcast September 23. “So we just got to slow it down a little bit. There’s some things going on that aren’t right as well. So we’ll talk about how to handle it.”
This week, those comments went viral this week as many speculated that Schiano was referring to Michigan’s sign stealing with those comments. But during his press conference this week, he clarified that he wasn’t actually referring to Michigan at all.
“That comment at half was strictly about my frustration with things that had gone on at half with officiating,” Schiano said when asked if it had anything to do with potential Michigan cheating allegations. “It had nothing to do with (anything else). I kept saying ‘how did I get dragged into this?’ But let’s focus on today and today’s win.”
It’s clear that Schiano is not particularly interested in talking about it further.
