The Georgia Bulldogs will now be down at least one quarterback going into the off-season. Georgia QB Brock Vandagriff announced on Monday that he plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Vandagriff made the announcement on his personal X account.
“Dawg Nation, thank you for the unwavering support over the past 3 years. I was able to accomplish a huge goal of mine, which is graduating from the University of Georgia.
“I would like to thank my teammates, coaches, trainers, EQ staff, and professors for helping to shape me into the man I am today. The friendships and relationships built over the past 3 years have played a huge role in my life and will continue to do so down the road.
I will be entering the transfer portal as a graduate transfer with two years of eligibility. I am excited for the opportunities that are ahead of me. All of this would not be possible without my lord and savior, helping to guide me along the way. Chop wood, carry water…”
After already sitting two seasons behind former Georgia Bulldogs starting quarterback Stetson Bennett, many expected that the former five-star quarterback prospect would transfer from the program if it was clear that he would not be the team’s starter this season. However, he elected to remain with the program, despite Carson Beck assuming that role.
In limited playing time, Vandagriff threw for 165 yards with two touchdowns. He completed 66.7 percent of his passes, going 12 for 18.
With two years of eligibility left, the now-former Georgia quarterback hopes to find new ground on which to prove himself. His numbers leave a bit to be desired, but that might spur him to prove that he has more to offer. Teams will always need quarterbacks, so suitors shouldn’t be hard for him to find.
For Georgia, on the flip side, it will now be about replacing his production, potentially in-house or otherwise. Beck will obviously remain the starter moving forward, but that leaves just Gunner Stockton behind him on the depth chart. While Georgia will likely need to add another body to its quarterback room, it’ll sign in the No. 1 ranked quarterback in the nation — Dylan Raiola — during the early signing period later this month.
It’s been a busy beginning to transfer portal season. And since we’ve only just begun, expect things to keep ramping up.
