One of the funniest budding traditions in college football comes from the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, where the winning coach gets a cooler full of mayonnaise poured on them. The Twitter account for the game revealed a particularly fun new twist to the post-game tradition on Thursday.
It has been revealed that the Duke’s Mayo Bowl is changing the person doing the mayonnaise dumping onto the winning head coach. They will be starting a “national search” for who will be given the honor of carrying out the tradition.
Many college football fans love this tradition, which prompted many to throw their hat in the ring of participants to do the honor.
Last year’s Mayo Bowl featured a matchup between the South Carolina Gamecocks and the North Carolina Tar Heels. South Carolina won the game, which meant that Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer was subsequently the recipient of the mayo bath.
This incident did not go super smoothly though, as Beamer detailed after the bath that he was hit in the back of the head with the cooler while it was getting dumped on him.
Whoever is tasked with dumping the mayo this time around will certainly have to be cognizant of the coach’s safety while also making sure they get properly covered in the condiment.
It will likely be some sort of celebrity or sports figure, which would only add to this fun niche tradition that is unlike any other at the Duke’s Mayo Bowl
