Despite reports that North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye was offered millions to transfer, the quarterback decided to remain in Chapel Hill.
To try and contradict rumors spread about offers he received, Maye told ESPN that neither he nor his family was personally contacted by any school for his services.
“Those rumors weren’t really reality,” he told ESPN. He added: “Pitt’s coach ended up putting that out there. I don’t know what that was about. You have to enter the transfer portal to talk to these schools and hear these offers. For me, I think college football is going to turn into a mess. They’re going to have to do something. There was nothing to me or my family directly offered from any of these other schools. Nothing was said or offered to the Mayes.”

That’s some interesting wording, however, considering the quarterback signed with Creative Artist Agency to handle his NIL representation and dealings in September. So while no one may have made an offer to him or his family, he’s not saying that an offer was floated to his representatives.
Last week, Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi said that he heard May had been offered $5 million as part of an enticement to transfer.
There were also rumors circulating that schools like Alabama, who will more than likely be losing quarterback Bryce Young to the NFL after their season ends, may have contacted Maye to come there. Maye was first committed to Alabama before flipping to the Tar Heels.
Head coach Mack Brown even hinted at other schools tampering with Maye although he wouldn’t say who it was.
“I can’t say (who they are),” said Brown. “Just look at all the ones who are getting all the top recruits.”
