Things were eventful at the White House on Monday afternoon. United States President Donald Trump hosted the Ohio State Buckeyes football team to commemorate their national championship victory over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in January.

Things took a left turn on the day when Vice President JD Vance, who is an Ohio State alum and alleged Buckeyes fan, broke the national championship trophy as he tried to hoist it.

As if that weren’t enough, Trump revealed that he didn’t actually watch much of the Buckeyes, thanks to a brutal slip of the tongue while praising young Buckeyes receiver Jeremiah Smith.

“He was at a level nobody else has been at, from what I hear. Nobody could stop him, even as a freshman,” Trump said.

Fans reacte to the president’s words on social media.

“Unfortunately it’s really meaningless given who the praise came from,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“You can tell goat was weirded out by annoying orange,” one fan wrote, feeling like Smith wanted nothing to do with Trump.

“HAHAHAHA WE GOT A DONNY TRUMP-JJ SMITH HANDSHAKE IN 2025,” another fan wrote, noting the incredulity of the situation.

It’ll be interesting to see if Trump walks back his statement and says that he did watch Smith perform rather than relying solely on hearsay.
