On Friday, United States President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance went viral after an argument with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. While the interaction between the world leaders was certainly controversial, one legendary college football coach clearly liked what he saw from Trump and Vance.

The interaction between Trump, Vance, and Zelenskyy got contentious toward the end of their public meeting in front of the press as Vance insinuated that Zelenskyy was not grateful for U.S. support and Trump claimed that Zelenskyy was “gambling with World War III.”

“You’re gambling with World War III. You’re gambling with World War III, and what you’re doing is very disrespectful to the country — this country — that’s backed you far more than a lot of people said they should have,” Trump said.

While the intense interaction led to mixed reactions, legendary Notre Dame Fighting Irish head coach Lou Holtz was clearly on the side of Trump and Vance.

In a post on social media this week, Holtz praised Donald Trump for showing “real leadership” in his interaction with Zelenskyy.

“It’s moments like these that remind us of what real leadership looks like,” Holtz said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

“Proud of @realDonaldTrump & @JDVance for always putting America first,” Holtz continued.

This is certainly not the first time that Holtz has expressed his support for Trump. Ahead of the election, Holtz shared a post on social media endorsing Trump for the presidency and making it clear that he is a personal friend of the president.

“I happen to be good friends with President Trump, and I say this sincerely: I know him well. I play golf with him. He’s an honest individual. He’s personable. You keep falling in love with the guy when you’re one on one!” Holtz said in a post on X.

Clearly, Holtz’s support of Trump did not waver with what he saw during the contentious interaction with Zelenskyy over the weekend. In fact, it seems like Holtz has only grown stronger in his admiration for Trump and for Vance since seeing the interview with Zelenskyy.
