United States President Donald Trump has been controversial since his return to the Oval Office. However, one thing nearly everyone in the country can agree on is that college athletics are in major need of reform in the current NIL landscape that is reminiscent of the Wild, Wild West.
In light of that, Trump got to work on creating a Presidential commission focused on tackling the issues plaguing modern-day collegiate athletics. However, Trump’s commission has just suffered a major setback, according to one prominent college football outlet.
“NEWS: Donald Trump’s Presidential Commission on College Sports has been paused,” reported On3 on Thursday.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“This commission needs to happen—and Cody Campbell should be leading it. He understands NIL, realignment, and what’s actually best for athletes. No more letting ESPN, the SEC, or university presidents shape the narrative unchecked,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Gee, I wonder if the schools with Trump booster alums with all the NIL money, who are afraid of being capped on how much tampering money they could throw at players had anything to do with this?” someone else wrote.
“Hopefully, indefinitely keep politicals out of CFB,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Trump’s commission resumes.
