CFB world reacts as Desmond Howard bemoans over Big Ten’s Michigan investigation

Did we really think that Desmond Howard would feel any other way about the Big Ten’s investigation of Michigan?

On Friday’s edition of Get Up, Howard appeared on ESPN’s airwaves and tore into the Big Ten. Howard, who won the 1991 Heisman Trophy winner with the Wolverines, believed that the conference was rushing into Michigan’s sign-stealing investigation, and claimed that the NCAA would never let this happen in the SEC.

Howard said the Big Ten should let the NCAA finish its investigation before making any decisions, and that commissioner Tony Petitti is jumping the gun.

“The commissioner is actually treating them unfairly,” Howard said of his alma mater. “He’s circumventing due process by the NCAA. You know, Greg [McElory], this would never happen in the SEC. Are you telling me, they would do this to Nick Saban and Alabama? [Heck] no. You know the commissioner of the SEC would never do this.”

“They’re absolutely being treated unfairly…they’re circumventing the due process, Greg,” Howard added.

Howard also used the SEC talking point with Paul Finebaum, via Awful Announcing.

“What Michigan is asking for seems to be fair when they ask for due process,” Howard said. “The coverage has been so intense, it’s created this groundswell of emotion. And because of this groundswell of emotion, that’s what it seems Petitti is responding to.

“Due process is in place so you don’t act emotionally. You let the facts come out and you let the process work through everything it’s supposed to in gathering facts and information. That’s all Michigan is asking for. It seems like the groundswell of emotion wants the Big Ten to circumvent what’s going on with the NCAA.”

Naturally, Howard’s response drew a lot of reactions on social media.

We’ll have to see if this impassioned rant continues over to College GameDay on Saturday, as the Big Ten’s showdown with Jim Harbaugh and Co. looms.
