Colorado head coach Deion Sanders walks the field during warm ups as the Oregon Ducks host Colorado in the Pac-12 opener Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Ore.

Colorado Buffaloes do-it-all player Travis Hunter has been sidelined for the past two weeks after he suffered a lacerated liver on an illegal hit against Colorado State. But as head coach Deion Sanders points out, he’s still finding a way to impact the team even if he can’t be on the field.

During his press conference this week, Deion Sanders praised Travis Hunter for the way that he has stepped up and helped coach his teammates filling in for him. And Sanders made it clear that this isn’t something he asked Hunter to do – he just did it himself.

“But Travis took it upon himself to do what he does,” Sanders said according to On3. “That’s what he does when he’s on the field, he’s challenging that other corner because he knows that other corner’s going to get a whole lot of balls, they really are.”

Sanders has been so impressed by Hunter’s mentality despite his injury that he had a pretty clear message for his superstar player, calling him a “dog.”

“You don’t instruct dogs to be dogs,” Sanders said. “That’s just who he is.”

Sanders said that Hunter will be out for about two or three more weeks. In the meantime, it sounds like he’ll continue coaching his teammates from the sidelines.
