After starting 3-0 for the first time since 2020 and generating a ton of buzz along the way, Deion Sanders and the No. 19 Colorado Buffaloes took their first loss of the season Saturday in Eugene, as the No. 10 Oregon Ducks came away with a 42-6 win.
Oregon outplayed Colorado throughout the game and nearly recorded a shutout before the Buffaloes finally got on the board with just a few minutes remaining.
“That was a good old-fashioned butt-kicking. No excuses, no nothin’, their coaches did a heck of a job preparing their team. Obviously, we didn’t. That was a really good old-fashioned butt-kicking. We went into the game wanting to dominate several phases and we lost offensively, defensively, and special teams. We lost all three. Bo Nix played his butt off, and defensively they presented some things we couldn’t get around.” Sanders said while meeting with the media following the game.
Sanders also took a shot at Oregon coach Dan Lanning who said in his pregame speech that Colorado “plays for clicks.”
“I don’t say stuff just to say it for a click, contrary to what somebody said. You better get me right now, this is the worst we’re going to be.” Sanders declared.
Oregon outgained Colorado, 522-199 and had 30 first downs to the Buffs’ 13. Oregon quarterback Bo Nix picked the Colorado defense apart, finishing 28-33 with 276 passing yards and three touchdowns. Oregon’s offensive line also stood out, as the Ducks gained 240 yards on the ground at a rate of 6.3 yards per carry.
Defensively, Oregon made quarterback Shedeur Sanders’ day tough, sacking him seven times and pressuring him many more.
Colorado will face another big test next week against No. 5 USC, while Oregon heads to Palo Alto to take on Stanford.
