Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders has certainly brought his attitude to his new team.
Many college football observers didn’t know what to expect from the Buffaloes after over 40 players transferred from the program after Sanders arrived. But the Buffaloes, who went 1-11 the year prior, certainly made a statement last Saturday in the upset of the reigning national champion runner-ups in the TCU Horned Frogs.
Next on the schedule for Sanders’ team is the Nebraska Cornhuskers, who suffered a disappointing, come-from-ahead loss in the fourth quarter against the Minnesota Golden Gophers in Week 1. The Huskers and the Buffaloes are old rivals dating back to the two teams’ days in the Big 12 Conference.
Sanders, despite only coaching at Colorado for one game, says he’s done his research on the rivalry and is taking the game personally.
“I’ve learned the severity, the serious nature of this rivalry and I’m embracing it one hundred percent. This is personal. That’s the message of the week,” Sanders said, according to Yahoo’s Evan Bredeson.
Sanders also went out of his way to praise first-year Huskers coach Matt Rhule.
“They’re well-coached. I do admire their coach tremendously — what he did in Baylor. I know things didn’t go the way they desired to go at Carolina, but just that opportunity and doing what he did is something that some aspire — I don’t aspire — to go to, but I like him,” Sanders said.
“He’s done a phenomenal job with that team and trying to get them in the right direction. They play hard, they play tough, they’re physical. They dot I’s and cross T’s, and trust me, they’re not going to lay down in any means. They going to come in here and be prepared for a dogfight.”
