The Michigan Wolverines were handed their punishments for the sign-stealing scandal that took over the college football world in 2023. The Wolverines, who went 15-0 en route to winning the national championship, were accused of conducting an elaborate, nationwide sign-stealing operation, allowing them to know what plays their opponents were going to run.

However, the NCAA didn’t exactly fall on the Wolverines with a heavy hand.

“Sources: Among Michigan’s punishments in the NCAA COI ruling, per me and (Dan Wetzel): *Michigan receives a significant fine, expected to be more than $20 million, from loss of postseason football revenue for the next two seasons,” ESPN’s college football insider Pete Thamel reported on Twitter.

“*Michigan coach Sherrone Moore is given an additional game suspension, which is expected take place in 2026. The school already proposed a self-imposed a two-game ban for this upcoming season, which is slated for Week 3 and 4.”

Thamel went on to follow up with head coach Harbaugh’s punishment.

“Sources tell me and (Dan Wetzel) they’ll also be a 10-year show-cause penalty for Jim Harbaugh and an 8-year show-cause penalty for Connor Stalions.”

Now, one of Michigan’s most famous fans, who is now a member of FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff team, is laughing off the NCAA’s ruling.

“The big bad NCAA, that d*ckless organization, on the way out, corrupt,” Portnoy said, according to Awful Announcing, “they just fined Michigan $20 million. Like we give a f*ck about $20 million. Twenty million is ashtray money, bro, for us. That’s like one-quarter of (five-star QB) Bryce Underwood.”

“Ohio State, cry, little brother, cry, all you other schools, cry,” Portnoy went on. “Like we give a f*ck about twenty million. We own the Big Ten and we’re coming for ya. See you at Big Noon Kickoff. I’m gonna be there, Columbus.”

It’s worth wondering what power the NCAA actually has in this day and age.
