Colorado is losing another football player.
Running back Alton McCaskill, who transferred to the Buffaloes from the University of Houston ahead of the 2023 season, is entering the transfer portal. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported the news on Twitter/X on Wednesday.
“Colorado tailback Alton McCaskill tells ESPN that he’s entering the NCAA transfer portal,” Thamel reported. “McCaskill earned AAC Rookie of the Year honors in 2021 while at Houston, running for 961 yards and grabbing 113 receiving yards. He’ll have two years eligibility.”
This has been a theme for Colorado this offseason. That was an observation of college football fans and observers on Wednesday night.

McCaskill had a limited impact on the field for the Buffaloes. He transferred to Colorado after Sanders was hired and missed the early portion of the 2023 season. Then, after seeing limited action in four games (he had a total of 14 carries), McCaskill suggested that he not play any more that season, an idea Sanders was on board with.
“In late October, he asked Sanders if he could sit out the rest of the season and redshirt,” Brian Howell of Buff Zone wrote in February. “Sanders was all for the move, knowing it could pay off in the future.”
Following his tremendous freshman season at Houston in 2021, McCaskill missed the entire 2022 season after suffering a torn ACL that spring.
