Over the past few years, Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young has become one of the most iconic players in all of college football and earned himself numerous endorsement opportunities. But according to his dad, focusing on those NIL opportunities is “short-term thinking.”

Craig Young, the father of Bryce Young, said that players should not make their college decisions based on NIL opportunities, but should instead make the best decision and then allow the NIL opportunities to follow naturally.

“People are looking for the best NIL opportunities, which is short-term thinking,” Craig Young said according to On3. “They should be focusing on what is the best academic institution for you? What is the best culture? What is the best coaching? Coaching staff?

“If there are NIL opportunities, then so be it. The best NIL opportunity is to go someplace and play well and build a name for yourself and build a brand for yourself through your play and your character and build a product that brands will want to align with.”

Bryce Young had several NIL opportunities while at Alabama, the most prominent of which was an endorsement deal with Dr. Pepper. Young has earned himself a seven-figure income based on his NIL opportunities. But his father wants to make it clear that this is not what most college football players can expect.

“One of the most important things as a family and with your student-athlete is to manage expectations,” Craig Young said. “Our NIL story is amazing, for the most part pretty successful. It is not the norm.”

Now, Bryce Young is set to become a first-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
