It has been reported that Drew Pyne, the quarterback for the Arizona State Sun Devils, will be leaving the team and entering the NCAA Transfer Portal. This means that the Sun Devils will have at least one less quarterback going into the off-season. Pyne revealed his intentions to ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Friday.
Pyne, who originally transferred to Tempe from Notre Dame, reportedly expects to have three seasons of eligibility remaining and will be eligible next season after he earns his degree.
Pyne played in just two games under center for the Sun Devils this season, as injuries mounted in the quarterback room. In two games, he threw for 273 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. Pyne completed 53.1 percent of his passes, going 26 of 49.
In his last season with the Fighting Irish, Pyne completed 64.6 percent of his passes, going 164 of 254, for 2,021 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions on 49 attempts.
The former quarterback of Arizona State is looking for new opportunities to prove himself. He still has three years of eligibility left and although his numbers were not outstanding, that might motivate him to show that he is capable of more. As there is always a demand for quarterbacks, he shouldn’t have trouble finding teams that are interested in him
In the meantime, Arizona State will have to find a way to replace his production, whether it is by promoting in-house talent or recruiting new players. However, it seems that both Jaden Rashada and Trenton Bourguet were ahead of him on the team’s depth chart.
