Five-star freshman quarterback Arch Manning was not expected to see much action this year as he sat behind returning Texas Longhorns starting quarterback Quinn Ewers. But this week, something changed that puts Manning one step closer to making his much-anticipated debut with the team.
According to a report from college football insider Pete Thamel of ESPN, Texas Longhorns starting quarterback Quinn Ewers suffered an injury this weekend that will cause him to “miss some time.”
Sources: Texas QB Quinn Ewers has a grade 2 AC joint sprain in his right (throwing) shoulder and is expected to miss some time, an MRI revealed on Sunday. The injury is not season ending, as @anwarrichardson reported earlier. A more finite timetable should emerge this week,” Thamel said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
Obviously, if Ewers is unable to play, that means that Texas will have to turn to a different quarterback this week against the BYU Cougars. That potentially opens the door for Manning to play the first snaps of his college football career, and the CFB world had a lot to say about it.
There’s no way Arch Manning now leads Texas to the national title, right?!? There’s just no way… right?!? https://t.co/7lSE9JXYL3

I called this situation earlier. What happens if Malik Murphy comes in and absolutely kills it? Does Ewers get the job back? More importantly, do you ditch a proven Murphy next year for Manning? https://t.co/O6ItGZitOp

Hoping Quinn is able to return sooner rather than later, but it’s officially Maalik (or even Arch?) season.
Season goals are still on the table… let’s make sure it stays that way.

It’s likely that second-year quarterback Maalik Murphy will likely get the first shot at replacing Ewers, there’s a real chance that Manning will have his chance, too. We’ll have to see what happens this week.
