It was a shock to Alabama fans around the country when the news surfaced that former Crimson Tide running Ahmaad Galloway passed away at the age of 42.
According to TMZ, Galloway died from an accidental overdose of fentanyl, ethanol, and xylazine.
On January 9, Galloway was found dead in his home after he didn’t report to work as an eighth-grade teacher at Compton-Drew Middle School in St. Louis.
According to his boss, the school’s principal, Susan Reid, there was nothing strange or problematic with Galloway before his death.
Galloway rushed for nearly 1800 yards and 17 touchdowns in his career at Alabama. He leaves behind two children.
Several of his former Alabama teammates mourned their friend and brother’s death. Galloway was part of the 2001 Crimson Tide which featured wide receiver, Antonio Carter who was devastated by this latest death.
Carter talked about Galloway’s death back in January and why the 2001 Alabama squad seems to have been dealt many blows to the 2001 team. This is the fifth player from that team who has passed away over the years.
“I don’t know that we’re snake-bit, but I’m a man of strong faith, and God called all those guys home,” said Carter, who is now a WR coach at Miles College in Birmingham. “God wanted them with him, not with us.”
Several of Galloway’s former teammates attended his funeral back in late January.
