The women’s basketball game between the UConn Huskies and the North Carolina State Wolfpack Sunday had its scheduled start delayed by 20-plus minutes thanks to a medical emergency involving Huskies’ associate head coach Chris Dailey. FS1 opened its broadcast with comments from announcer John Fanta on the news of a medical emergency delaying tipoff:
After two commercial breaks and men’s basketball discussion in their studio, FS1 then returned to the game with an update from Fanta and color commentator Kim Adams that it was Dailey impacted, and that she had been helped off the floor.
Here’s more on what happened, from The Hartford Courant:
UConn women’s basketball assistant coach Chris Dailey was taken off the court in a stretcher after appearing to faint before the team’s game with NC State at the XL Center on Sunday.
Dailey received medical attention after vomiting and then falling to the floor following the national anthem, just before the game was about to start. She was taken off in a stretcher but could be seen waving to the crowd as she left the court.
Here’s a photo of Dailey on the stretcher, from Gregory Fisher of USA Today Sports:
Dailey, 63, has been an assistant on Auriemma‘s Connecticut staff since he took over there in 1985. Before that, she played at Rutgers from 1978-82. She started her coaching career as an assistant at Cornell, then worked as an assistant at Rutgers, then joined Auriemma at Connecticut in 1985. She was named the Huskies’ associate head coach in 1988, and has held that role since. Here’s hoping she’s okay.
