The San Diego State Aztecs were tough to watch on offense in the first half of the national championship game.
Things started well, as the Aztecs led 10-6 less than 3 1/2 minutes into the contest.
Then came a lot of ugliness. The Aztecs did not hit another field goal until the 5:26 mark, a drought of 11:08. By that time they were behind 26-17, and they’d go on to trail by as many as 16 before heading into halftime down 36-24.
After shooting just 28.6% (8-of-28) from the field in the first half, the general consensus on Twitter held that SDSU was fortunate to only be down 12.
“I feel good about San Diego State — they can’t play any worse,” CBS Sports analyst Charles Barkley said at halftime.
Fans were not kind to the Aztecs on Twitter. One fan tweeted, “The whiplash going from LSU/Iowa yesterday and both teams shooting the ball well to whatever the heck this game is with San Diego State going 11 minutes without a field goal is like eating at a 5-star restaurant and then eating the next day at a restaurant on Kitchen Nightmares.”
“Is it too late for San Diego State to sign Caitlin Clark?” joked another fan.
Other fans used San Diego State’s bricks as a chance to polish their meme-making skills.
