A former 4-star guard from the Michigan Wolverines has hit the NCAA transfer portal.
Isaiah Barnes will transfer from the University of Michigan. The Class of 2021 recruit spent two seasons in Ann Arbor but has now decided that he wants to play elsewhere. The news of Barnes’ transfer came from On3Sports on Sunday afternoon during the NCAA Tournament.
“Michigan guard Isaiah Barnes plans to enter the transfer portal, he tells @On3sports,” tweeted Joe Tipton of On3 Sports.
Barnes had limited action as a Wolverine, which might help explain this move as he could seek more playing time. In only 17 career games, he averaged 5.7 minutes per game. He’s recorded averages of just 0.9 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 0.1 assists per game while shooting 31.3 percent from the floor.
He originally committed to Michigan in 2020. Prior to arriving, Barnes attended the famed Simeon Academy in Chicago, Illinois. He had received offers at the time from Chicago State, DePaul, Detroit, Georgia, Illinois, UIC, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Loyola-Chicago, Maryland, TCU, Wisconsin, and UW-Milwaukee.
At the time, Isaiah Barnes was a 4-star high school recruit. He ranked fourth in the state of Illinois in the 2021 recruiting class. Above him was Max Christie, Bryce Hopkins, and Simeon teammate Ahamad Bynum. He ranked 117th in the nation in the Class of 2021, a class headlined by Chet Holmgren and Paolo Banchero.
