The Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball program has achieved much over the years. On Saturday, the program achieved another first. But this is one that Big Blue Nation will want to forget about soon.
The Wildcats ate a tough loss to the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Facing a must-win situation, the Zags entered Rupp Arena and emerged victorious. That’s no easy task for any opponent over the years. That statement never felt truer than it did on Saturday. Kentucky made history on Saturday for all the wrong reasons with their loss to the Bulldogs.
For the first time in Rupp Arena history, Kentucky men’s basketball lost for the third consecutive time at home. The venerable building never saw three straight defeats before. That is no longer true after Saturday’s 87-84 loss to Gonzaga.
It’s been an up-and-down season for the Wildcats, who are now 16-7 on the season. UK previously lost to Tennessee and Florida, two big rivals, so it was a bitter pill to swallow as it is. Now, though, this loss will be remembered for various infamous reasons.
Kentucky still has plenty of breathing room regarding their March credentials. The Zags needed that victory way more, and the fact that they got it would boost their chances of making the field.
Gonzaga simply wasn’t the topic of discussion after though. After making dubious history, the sports world reacted to the news on Kentucky and their futility streak.
This is embarrassing. The players play, but cal is the coach. This is his mess to clean up https://t.co/HSQo9ADfub

I’ve been a cal supporter for a long time. If we don’t make a run in the tournament, he has to go https://t.co/8GR374mRs9
