The Georgetown Hoyas faced off against the DePaul Blue Demons on Tuesday, where they had an opportunity to break a truly horrendous losing streak coming in Big East conference play.
Georgetown came into the matchup with a 29-game losing streak in conference play and a 34-game losing streak against high-major schools under Hoyas legend Patrick Ewing as head coach.
The game came down to the wire, but Georgetown was ultimately able to pull away in the second half to come away with an 81-76 victory.
This win marks the first time since March of 2021 that they have won a Big East game, which speaks to just how bad things have been for Patrick Ewing and company at Georgetown.
Even after the win, Georgetown sits at the bottom of the Big East with a 6-15 overall record. Regardless, this win was clearly huge for Hoyas fans, highlighted by the hilarious reaction from Georgetown’s longtime radio voice Rich Chvotkin after the final buzzer.
Based on Chvotkin’s reaction, you would think that Georgetown just won the National Championship. The harsh truth is that Georgetown still has a long way to go to revive its stagnant basketball program. However, many praised the Hoyas and saw this as a huge step in the right direction.
Georgetown fans better storm that court.

It’s certainly understandable for Georgetown fans to be excited about this win when you consider just how bad things have been in recent years.
In the last ten college basketball seasons, the Hoyas have made the NCAA Tournament just twice, with one coming due to a miraculous run in the Big East Tournament in the 2020-21 season.
They will look to build on this momentum in a far tougher matchup on Sunday against St. John’s.
