Alabama players huddle before the start of the first half at Memorial Gymnasium Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023, in Nashville, Tenn. Ncaa Basketball Alabama At Vanderbilt

Sports fans sometimes can be downright mean and cruel, especially in college. So when Alabama visited the Missouri Tigers Saturday night, you knew that eventually some fan or fans would take things too far when it came to comments about former Tide player Darius Miles.

Miles was arrested last Sunday in the capital murder death of a 23-year-old woman. It was later reported that Miles was the one who provided the gun in the shooting.

This was the Crimson Tide’s second consecutive road game after the Miles incident, so you knew eventually some fans were going to make crude remarks about it and when they did Saturday night, the situation was handled properly according to Bama head coach Nate Oats.

When some same Mizzou fans made nasty comments about Miles, they were thrown out. Oats praised the Mizzou coaching staff and administration for the way the situation was handled.

“This isn’t something students should be joking about,” he said to AL.com. “We have addressed it with our guys, and I hope the different schools we go to, the leadership there is making sure that they’ve got that under control, as well.”

Oats went on to say that some college students don’t understand the severity of a situation. Alabama would go on to win 85-64.
