The Creighton Bluejays will have a tough act to follow next season, coming off an Elite Eight appearance. The Big East power took a huge step in that direction Monday, landing Utah State transfer Steven Ashworth.
Ashworth live-streamed his decision on the “The Field of 68” podcast.
A 6-1 guard, Ashworth is a prolific 3-point shooter, knocking down 43.4% of his 111 attempts from long distance. He ranked sixth in the country in 3-point percentage. Ashworth averaged 16.2 points and 4.5 assists per game for Utah State, which finished 26-9.
He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
One of the most highly touted guards in the portal, Ashworth enjoyed a different recruiting difference from when he was a low-profile high school player.

“I think this recruitment out of the transfer portal is what I probably dreamed of my high school recruitment being,” Ashworth told ‘The Field of 68.” “It’s been fun and just really humbling that I had so many opportunities to play basketball at so many places next season.
“I think this year has been a key pivotal year for my development and confidence. … The funnest thing for me is there is just so much more that I can do.”
Ashworth said he also considered BYU, Washington, Oklahoma State and VCU, among other schools.
College basketball fans think Creighton landed a gem.
Ashworth to Creighton. Best shooter in the country, imo. His game will translate to the Big East level. He’s different than Nembhard but I don’t think it’s as big a drop off as some might believe. https://t.co/zEjoPu989F
