The 2022-23 college basketball season began on Monday. One team hopes to attract a big crowd for their second game of the season on Friday. Their tactic? Offer pizza.

The DePaul Blue Demons have had a rough go over the last decade as any college basketball fan would tell you. The team has finished with an above-.500 record only once since 2006-07. They have finished with a record above .500 in Big East play just once since joining the conference.

Second-year head coach Tony Stubblefield came in and almost led the team to a .500 record. The Blue Demons finished 15-16 overall in the 2021 season. The team won their first game of the 2022 season 72-66 over Loyola (MD) on Monday. Now the team hopes to keep the momentum going against Western Illinois on Friday.

Stubblefield wants a lot of fans at Wintrust Arena for the game so the second-year coach offered to buy pizza for those who come to the basketball game.

“We need your energy,” Stubblefield pled with DePaul fans and students. He continued, “So I’m providing free pizza to all students taking the bus from the Lincoln Park campus to Wintrust.”

There is no word on what kind of pizza students will receive upon arrival at Wintrust Arena. But pickiness is overrated. Especially when it comes to free pizza. DePaul basketball gets a win here and we’ll see if it translates to a bigger crowd on Friday night in Chicago.
