If you’re going to dish out some cocky gestures when you’re winning, don’t be surprised to see them thrown back in your face when you lose.
That’s what happened to Iowa’s Caitlin Clark when the LSU Tigers thoroughly dominated them in the national championship game and Angel Reese decided to remind her opponent about it.
With time running out in the 2023 Women’s NCAA Tournament finale, it appeared to be a foregone conclusion that LSU was about to win its first-ever national championship. Reese was seen on camera pointing to her ring finger to let people know a championship ring was going there. Then, the camera showed her looking at Clark and then doing the “You Can’t See Me” gesture that WWE wrestler John Cena made famous.
Clark has previously made that gesture when Iowa defeated Louisville to make it to the Final Four.
College basketball fans were mixed on the move. Some thought it was tacky and lacked sportsmanship. Others, like Sue Bird in the clip above, figured that if you can dish it out, you better be able to take it too.
Earlier this week, Reese said LSU deserves credit for putting women’s basketball on the map. While that might still be a ludicrous claim, they got a step closer to it being true on Sunday.
