It’s always tough when we lose a sports legend unexpectedly. It feels like just yesterday when we lost Kobe Bryant and his daughter in a tragic helicopter accident in California.
Now the sports community has lost another great, and although this time there wasn’t a horrible accident involved, the news is no less heavy for it.
“The legendary boxer, author, and entrepreneur, #GeorgeForeman, has passed away at 76. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time,” reported Hot 97 on Friday night.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Condolences to George Foreman’s family. His contribution to boxing and beyond will never be forgotten,” legendary boxer and Foreman’s former rival Mike Tyson tweeted after the news broke.
“George Foreman wasn’t just a champion in the ring—he was a legend in life, proving that greatness has no age limit,” one fan added.
“The one man who may have hit even harder than Iron mike. I’ll never forget big George hitting Joe Frazier so hard he lifted him off his feet. A 2 round Demolition job to win the world titles in one of the most impressive performances to become champ. RIP big George,” another fan added.
“The Rumble in the Jungle was the loss of the beast. The man that came out of that led to an inspiring life. God bless his family,” someone else wrote.
Hopefully, Foreman’s family will receive the time and peace it needs to heal.
