United States Soccer has reportedly found the man to lead the Men’s National Team has reportedly found the man to lead the men’s national team going forward.
Reports emerged on Wednesday that Argentina’s Mauricio Pochettino, who was most recently the manager of Premier League club Chelsea F.C., is set to become the new USMNT coach.
Iván Kasanzew reported the news in a post on X (formerly Twitter) which was translated from Spanish to English by Google.
“Sources indicate that Mauricio Pochettino has reached an agreement to become the new United States national team coach,” the translated post said.
The news of Pochettino leading the USMNT going forward was generally met with positivity within the soccer world.
Mauricio Pochettino is the 2nd biggest hire the USMNT could have made outside of Jurgen Klopp.

I will say that going from Vlatko Andonovski and Gregg Berhalter to Emma Hayes and Mauricio Pochettino would be an all-time coaching glow up

Listen, if the USMNT actually land Mauricio Pochettino… that will be the best hire the federation has made in its history. The credibility that comes with that name is exactly what this team needs.
Absolutely best manager on the market right now for this job. #USMNT

Taking over the USMNT would be a challenge for Pochettino.
American soccer’s progress has largely stalled in recent years. The most recent disappointment came at the 2024 Copa América, where, as the host nation, the United States couldn’t advance beyond group play. The USMNT has advanced out of group play in each of its last three World Cups (though the United States did not qualify for the 2018 World Cup) but has not made it beyond the Round of 16 since 2002.
