Michigan defensive lineman Kris Jenkins picks up the trophy to celebrate 34-13 win over Washington at the national championship game at NRG Stadium in Houston on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024.

One of the members of the National Champion Michigan Wolverines declared for the NFL Draft on Friday. Defensive lineman Kris Jenkins will go pro this spring, ending a celebrated college career.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported the news of Jenkins’ decision.

“Michigan star defensive lineman Kris Jenkins tells ESPN that he’s declaring for the NFL Draft,” Thamel said. Thamel made the post on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

Jenkins enjoyed a three-year playing career with the University of Michigan. The Wolverine lineman recorded 113 total tackles, 8.5 TFL, and 4.5 sacks. He also left Ann Arbor with one interception this season and one fumble recovery.

He is touted as one of the best defensive lineman prospects in the NFL Draft. ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr., according to Thamel’s post, rates him fifth among his peers at the position. So it’s fair to say that Jenkins could emerge as a a high-round pick in the draft. It all depends on how the next few months shake out.

Jenkins leaves Michigan with his head held high. He and the Wolverines won the program’s first National Championship since the 1997 season. In snapping their drought, they became the last team to win a 4-team College Football Playoff. It also earned head coach Jim Harbaugh his first National Championship as a head coach.
