The New York Mets will be without one of their star pitchers for the foreseeable future.
Mets right-hander Kodai Senga felt the injury bug early like many others in Major League Baseball have thus far. In Spring Training, Mets team doctors diagnosed Senga with a strained moderate posterior capsule. So he hasn’t been able to see the mound this season. That stretch will continue after the Mets decided on Wednesday to move Senga to the 60-day injured list.
The Athletic’s Will Sammon reported the news of the team’s decision to place Senga on the 60-day IL. He noted that the right-hander “hadn’t yet thrown off a mound” and that he won’t be eligible to return to New York “until late May.”
In 2023, Senga posted a 2.98 ERA in 166.1 innings pitched. He was named a National League All-Star for his efforts and finished second in NL Rookie of the Year voting. Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll won the award last season after a stupendous effort.
The Mets have been hurting lately in more ways than one. Their struggles have yet to really taper off, and this news on Senga doesn’t help matters much at all.
