The Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills are no strangers to dramatics. That proved true once again on Sunday afternoon in KC. The Chiefs lost to the Bills in a tight one that came down to a big play that wasn’t.
Chiefs star Travis Kelce caught a pass from former Most Valuable Player Patrick Mahomes. Kelce ran and then eventually lateraled to Kadarius Toney, who waltzed in for a touchdown. That score would have put the Chiefs ahead late. That is, if Toney didn’t get called for a blatant offsides penalty.
What was going through the minds of the Bills at the time? Josh Allen, the Bills quarterback, had just one thought.
“Well, I was like, ‘We gotta go score,'” Allen joked. “But that was the ballsiest play I’ve ever seen in my life.”
Allen is right. The play took a lot of courage to try and pull off. Kelce’s lateral was abrupt and nearly played out with one of the greatest plays in NFL history… except Kadarius Toney was offsides. So, it didn’t wind up counting.
Allen was on the receiving end of one shocking ending at Arrowhead two seasons ago. Now, he and the Bills find himself on the other side of the coin. As they say, sometimes life takes, and sometimes life gives away.
Josh Allen and the Bills have a premier matchup with the Dallas Cowboys looming next week.
